“Plum Festival" at Jindai Botanical Garden began

The Plum Garden there has 180 plum trees of about 70 kinds, primarily traditional ones. Currently those early-blossoming kinds—such as Toji, Yaekanko, Shironamba, Kumo-no-Akebono, Morinoseki---are in bloom, while Hino Tsukasa is soon to follow.

The Plum Garden there has 180 plum trees of about 70 kinds, primarily traditional ones. Currently those early-blossoming kinds are in bloom. The garden will offer visitors guided tours by volunteers at 10:30 and again at 13:30 on Feb. 21, 22 and 23.

“Ume (Plum) Concert”will be also performed at 11:00 and 13:30 on Feb. 11 by flute player Keio Kinose and Japanese kotoplayers Mika Arima and Shoma Kaneko. Currently studying at Toho Gakuen College of Drama and Music in Chofu, they will together play music in image of plum blossoms in ensemble. During the month of the Festival, “Umemi Chaya” café will be installed near the plum garden to sell warm drinks and souvenirs. It will be open until 16:00.

The Plum Festival will be open from 9:30 to 17:00 (latest admission at 16;00) and will be closed on Mondays (or Tuesday if Monday fall on holiday). Admission fee: 500 yen per visitor, 250 yen for senior visitors and 200 yen for junior high school student. (Free of charge for junior high school students in Chofu.) Younger visitors are also admitted for free. (Guided tours, concerts and Umemi Chaya café will be canceled under extremely bad weather.)
