Chofu is a city in the south-western part of Tokyo, and with a population of about 230,000. The suburban bed-town— 15 minutes by express trains from bustling terminal station of Shinjuku— is known for new urban charms coupled with clean water and rich green areas of parks, Tama River and Nogawa river, Jindai Botanical Garden and historical sites such as Jindaiji Temple.

In postwar Japan, Chofu was dubbed as the Hollywood of the East, where many hit movies including Godzilla series were produced at studios in the city. The city fondly uses the nickname of Cinema City Chofu.
